One the things that saddens me most about the portrayal and marketing of lady identifying folk in same sex relationships  is how the identities of queer women have now become disposable? If that makes any sense?

I don’t know how to put it right, because it’s not like I think that Western media is more accepting of the fluidity of the sexuality of women- but in comparison to that way that the sexuality of men is perceived (superior, timeless, holds the power) it seems like sexual fluidity of women has become more of an item to sell (to a mainly non queer non lady identifying audience).

Again, I’m probably not making any sense here- but the other day I was watching that Chloe movie with Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried in it. And it’s a trend I’ve noticed in a lot of things. They’re willing to show women having sex with women and stuff, especially as a selling point. But they’re sold as flings, or things to make a character edgy. It’s like there’s this block to prevent these relationships from achieving any depth or reality other than to make things ~quirky~.

And that’s really bothersome you know? Not that flings are bad (because they’re pretty fun) or that every relationship requires depth (because sometimes they don’t).

But as a queer woman, when I date other women, or make out with them or have sex with them- I’m not doing any of that to be quirky or edgy. I see it as me engaging with person on a load of other cool and complex levels and stuff.

But that’s not what I’m seeing when the media shows me what they think queer women and their sexualities are like.
